Kit Digital: grants to digitalise your invoicing in Spain

Complying with Spain's invoicing systems regulation (Royal Decree 1007/2023) is now mandatory — in force for companies since 1 January 2026 and for the self-employed since 1 July 2026. What many small businesses miss is that the switch to compliant invoicing software can be subsidised. Spain's Kit Digital programme, run by Red.es with European funds, was built to finance exactly this kind of digitalisation.

What Kit Digital is

Kit Digital is a public aid scheme aimed at digitalising SMEs and freelancers operating in Spain. It works through a digital voucher: you are granted an amount you can spend on technology solutions from a catalogue of categories, contracted through accredited providers known as digitising agents (agentes digitalizadores). One of the eligible categories is electronic invoicing and invoice management — a direct fit for adopting a compliant invoicing system.

How much money is on the table

The voucher amount depends on your company segment, defined by headcount: segments range from solo freelancers to larger SMEs, and the voucher grows with company size. Overall, grants reach up to several thousand euros per beneficiary, part of which can go to the invoicing solution. The exact figures per segment and category are set by each call for applications, so always check the current call on the Acelera pyme platform before budgeting.

How the application works, in broad strokes

The process is lighter than most public grants:

1. Complete the digital maturity self-assessment on Acelera pyme (a prerequisite). 2. Apply for the voucher at the Red.es electronic office, using a Spanish digital certificate or Cl@ve credentials. 3. Once granted, pick an accredited digitising agent and sign a solution provision agreement for the category you need. 4. The agent implements the solution and collects the subsidised amount directly from Red.es — you do not advance it (you do pay the VAT, which is not covered).

Timelines between application and award vary by call, so start before compliance deadlines start to bite.

Using the grant to adopt a compliant SIF

Here is the smart play: if the regulation forces you to change software anyway, let the grant pay for the transition. When comparing solutions within the invoicing category, verify the tool is a genuinely compliant SIF: billing records chained with SHA-256 hashes, a mandatory QR code on every invoice, an event log and inalterability, with the option to run in VeriFactu mode (continuous transmission to the AEAT on issuance) or non-VeriFactu mode. A subsidised solution that fails the regulation is money wasted — remember that using non-compliant software carries fines of up to €50,000 per tax year (art. 201 bis of the Spanish General Tax Law).

The fine print worth reading

Before signing with a digitising agent, check three things:

Do not confuse it with the B2B e-invoicing mandate

One final distinction: Kit Digital has been funding e-invoicing solutions for years, while Spain's mandatory B2B electronic invoice under the Crea y Crece law is a separate obligation, still pending deployment with a 2027 horizon. The right move today is complying with the regulation already in force through a proper SIF — while choosing a solution that will not fall short when the second wave arrives.

In short

Compliance costs less when Europe helps pay for it: self-assessment on Acelera pyme, digital voucher, accredited digitising agent, and an invoicing solution that is truly SIF-compliant. Check the current call, read the fine print, and turn a legal obligation into the modernisation your business had pending.
